Applying the rhetorical thinking, reading, and writing skills you have developed in English 1100 is the objective of this midterm assignment. Your assignment is to compose an MLA-format argument essay featuring your original ideas supported by quotes and/or paraphrases taken from scholarly sources. This argument exercise tests your ability to persuade an audience by interpreting, organizing, and synthesizing information. Not counting the Works Cited page, your essay must be within the 1,000-1,250 range, which is equivalent to 4-5.5 pages, double spaced. For structure, do not follow the formulaic 5-paragraph model of organization; instead, strive for an audience-focused and claims-driven argument that makes use of at least 7 paragraphs that vary in length. These paragraphs will include an introduction (featuring a lead-in, contextualization, and thesis statement), several main body paragraphs, and a summative conclusion. All papers must be written in the third person. As supporting evidence, your argument will reference 6-8 secondary sources through direct quotations, paraphrases or summaries and cite them in text, MLA style. A Works Cited page will include the bibliographic information needed to find the scholarly sources you have referenced throughout your argument. Topic :”Immigrants to Canada, like Anita Rau Badami (author of My Canada), are beneficial to the Canadian economy and culture: agree or disagree, focusing on British Columbia and its immigrant population.” we have to focus mainly on BC.
